Webinar

The programme highlights three SDGs on Responsible Tourism which are Quality Education (SDG 4), Responsible Consumption & Production (SDG 12), and Partnerships For the Goals (SDG 17). Since 2019, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has taken bolder steps in its direction to promote responsible tourism. The keynote speakers were Susan Santos de Cardenas (President & CEO, Society for Sustainable Tourism) whose topic was “Sustainable Development Goals on Responsible Tourism’ and Sara Salsini (General Manager, EXO Travel Malaysia) who shared on “Responsible Tourism a Way Forward”

STB also initiated programmes to create awareness on responsible tourism. Through such activities and initiatives, local communities are able to benefit economically, are more empowered and have greater awareness on how to sustain the environment with best practices.

Objectives

  • To identify the important economic, local community empowerment and environmental issues, and addressing them to make Sarawak a better place for people to live in and visit.
  • To raise awareness among individuals, organisations and government bodies on their responsibility towards the sustainability of the tourism industry as well as the empowerment of local communities.
