In line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Responsible Tourism (RT) Program advocates for responsible people, businesses and governments to maximize the positive economic, social and environmental impacts of tourism. The program highlights three SDGs on Responsible Tourism which are Quality Education (SDG 4), Responsible Consumption & Production (SDG 12), and Partnerships For the Goals (SDG 17). Since 2019, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has taken bolder steps in its direction to promote responsible tourism. STB also initiated programs to create awareness on responsible tourism. Through such activities and initiatives, local communities are able to benefit economically, empower the local communities more and create greater awareness on how to sustain the environment with best practices.
To identify the important economic, local community empowerment and environmental issues, and addressing them to make Sarawak a better place for people to live in and visit
To raise awareness among individuals, organisations and government bodies on their responsibility towards the sustainability of the tourism industry as well as the empowerment of local communities.
